This summer I also had the pleasure of working with Muriel Maffre and Damian Smith on their project, “Making Visible.” Last spring Muriel contacted me and asked if I was interested in helping her organize details for the performance exhibit. I was thrilled to be a part of the project, which allowed me to have artistic input and work alongside Muriel and Damian, outside of our normal dancing environment.

As you can see, I spend a lot of my time organizing–it’s something I do well!

Dance-wise, I had the pleasure of substitute teaching for City Ballet, and it was so much fun! My students were young–about 12-14 years old–and I was there for three weeks. I taught ballet with an emphasis on pointe work. It truly was a rewarding experience for me; the students are so dedicated, enthusiastic, and inspiring.

I was also able to spend a lot of time with my daughter during her summer break. Like most kids, she enjoys staying active and has even started rock-climbing! She doesn’t want to be a dancer at all. Instead, she wants to be “an athlete.” Of course, I was quick to remind her that dancers are athletes, too! She doesn’t want to have any “tiny bumps” (blisters!) on her feet.

Finally, my summer layover wouldn’t have been complete without catching up on some great movies! I really enjoyed A Single Man, Shutter Island (very intense!), and I’m looking forward to seeing Inception and of course, Twighlight Eclipse. Team Edward!
