What has happened to Vanessa? Is she sick or disabled? Did she quit? If she doesn’t start showing up on Thursdays your may well loose this subscriber!!

    Hi Richard,

Thanks for reaching out. Vanessa is very much still a part of the Company! (You can check out the lovely blog she just wrote for us, here:http://www.sfballetblog.org/2014/02/new-beginnings-2014/ . That said, as policy and out of respect for the dancers’ privacy, we don’t comment publicly on injuries or illness. The Artistic Team does its best to provide casting to the public at least one week in advance of performances, but occasionally this shifts. Thanks for your continued support of both Vanessa and SF Ballet!

Vanessa Zahorian has a broken foot according to this gala review: http://www.ebar.com/arts/art_article.php?sec=dance&article=234

Let’s give her some time to recover.

Bayadere was very impressive — especially Kotchekova, who was brilliant. The corps distinguished itself. But “guest star” Matvienko seemed heavy in the legs and just ordinary otherwise. Since when does SFB have guest stars? Please tell me he isn’t going to join the company.

Are Sunday matinees mostly for exposure to newer dancers? Each yr I suspect this. Two matinees in a row and I saw only a little bit of Yuan Yuan, Pascal, and Tiit. Bayadere was full of newbies, some whose arabesque >90degree got wobbly, not to mentioned never synchronized which totally ruined the effect. Firebird castes were cute (young) but lacked piazzas, overall unmemorable. Sunday needs more experienced dancers! Seriously considering not renewing Sun matinees next season.
