I chose the photo above from Chris Wheeldon’s After the Rain–not only because I love the work and partnering with Damian, but also because it’s a good illustration of what we’ve been doing! This fall is a busy time for us in the studio as we get ready for our New York tour and the season ahead. I’ve been rehearsing Helgi’s new work and some of the tour works like Ghosts and Symphonic Dances, many of which will be East Coast premieres.
I always love going to New York and have a list of favorite things to do there which includes shopping (5th Avenue and Soho), getting noodle soup in Chinatown, and visiting museums like the Met and the Frick. After New York, I head to Beijing with fellow Principal Dancer Vitor Luiz to perform at a gala celebrating the 60th anniversary of the prestigious Tianqiao Theatre.
Back in China, I’ll also get a look at a new 137-page book that chronicles my journey as a professional dancer and includes many of my favorite performances images. I’m thrilled that some of my mentors–including Helgi, John Neumeier, the dance director at the National Grand Theatre, and the dean from the school where I trained–have written forewords for it. Damian and I just returned from the Indianapolis City Ballet Gala where we performed Edwaard Liang’s Distant Cries and Jessica Lang’s Among the Stars and received a great reception.
I’d better go now–I have a rehearsal to get to!
