By Mimi Tompkins San Francisco Ballet School Trainee January 11, 2013
It’s 2013! The second semester is starting back in full swing. After 32 shows of Nutcracker and a week off, the Trainees are still getting our footing back into the studios to work on the new piece by SFB Corps de Ballet Member Myles Thatcher for the festival we’ve been invited to in Toronto in April, Assemblée Internationale.
Here’s a photo of me and fellow Trainee Max in the first movement of the ballet.
Even though we were able to have a few 30-minute rehearsals during the long hours of Nutcracker rehearsals and shows, now we are getting major blocks of rehearsal time to get Myles’ piece in the finishing process. Getting time with Myles is also quite complicated now because he has his own rehearsals dancing with the company, as well as rehearsals for creating a new piece on the Company for the 2013 Gala in just a few short weeks. I am so excited to see his Gala piece! It’s a huge opportunity and we are all very proud and excited for Myles. It definitely makes us feel even more blessed to work with such a talented choreographer.
So far, three out of the five movements are mostly choreographically completed. We will be filming our progressed work to send to Canada so they will get a feel for our piece to place it in the Assemblée’s program. With about four months left until the Trainees leave for Canada, we are starting to feel more excited than ever!
