Here I am with fellow dancer, Vito Mazzeo.
We’re still very excited to be performing here in London even though we’re tired from Wednesday night’s performance. Wednesday was the Opening Night of our third program, and it felt as though we had danced two performances in one day: first the dress rehearsal, and then the actual performance. It’s really hard to go to sleep after the show because you need to wind down, make sure you eat, and that you’re completely hydrated.
Me with Damian Smith, my long time dance partner!
During the day, we’ve also been rehearsing each of the different casts because they need to learn the new spacing for this theater. I think we all feel that the London audiences are phenomenal and that the Company has been very well received–it’s been great to return to the UK after eight years.
For much of this tour, I’ve been in the theater but I love the museums here and on our free day, I went to the Tate Modern. Next time I’ll have to add a couple of days so that I can see more. My motto on tour: work first!
Work First indeed! Yuan Yuan, you (and your talented! longtime dance partner) are a vision, truly. When I saw you in Ghost in London last Saturday, I was transported to a place where eternal love and deep sorrow intertwine painfully and perfectly. The palpable awe was broken only when, fade to black, the audience exhaled audibly and broke into raucous, extended, imploring applause. Thank you.
